Summary
On March 2, 2025, President Donald Trump issued Executive Order 14226, amending previous orders to tighten regulations on the flow of illicit drugs across the U.S.-Canada border. The amendment specifically targets duty-free de minimis treatment for certain goods, which will be revoked once the Secretary of Commerce assures the President that systems are in place to efficiently process and collect tariffs on these goods. This action could have significant legal and economic implications, potentially affecting trade relations and increasing scrutiny on imports, while demonstrating the administration's focus on combating drug trafficking.
